The British Marine Finfish
Association is the representative body for the newly emerging marine finfish aquaculture
sector. It has 22 members covering a broad sector of the industry including fish
farmers, feed manufacturers and research organisations.
The BMFA endorses the vision
of the entire aquaculture industry - working towards economic and environmentally
sustainable growth which meets market demands and provides secure employment and
economic activity in our coastal areas.
It provides representation
at both a political and scientific level, with the Association committed to the
need for good regulation and sustainable development. Recent scientific projects
have included recirculation technology, transfer of larval halibut from endogenous
to exogenous nutrition, as well as work on halibut broodstock nutrition.
The Association recognises
the need to work closely with stakeholder groups in initiatives such as Area Management
Agreements and to creating partnerships with legitimate and rational interest
groups and working with them using science and objectivity. The BMFA is also committed
to addressing feed sustainability through international expertise and analysis
and by developing alternative opportunities for the future.
